Michael Weatherly Causes a Frenzy Online After Posting About ‘NCIS’

Is there a chance Tony DiNozzo will make a grand return to NCIS? If Michael Weatherly has his way, it’s definitely a possibility.

Fans of the hit CBS drama haven’t seen Michael on the show ever since he left in 2016, but they got quite a surprise when he spoke out about his potential future. When a fan of the actor reached out on X (formerly known as Twitter) to ask if he preferred portraying DiNozzo on NCIS or Dr. Jason Bull from his other series Bull (which was the show he left NCIS for), he hinted that fans haven’t seen the last of DiNozzo.

“I suppose you leave out Logan Cale on purpose … ;),” he said while referencing his character in the science fiction series Dark Angel. “There will be more DiNozzo someday because he is the one character that felt unfinished … that’s my plan! We shall see … ”

When folks realized that there may be a world where DiNozzo returns to NCIS, they couldn’t help but tell him they would love to see this happen sometime soon.

“Sounds like a great plan to see what Very Special Agent Tony Dinozzo has been up to. Look forward to that day,” one person wrote on X. “Fingers crossed your plan will be accomplished in the near future 🤩 amazing news that you consider continuing with Dinozzo character 💕,” another agreed. “❤️❤️❤️ please say it is so!!!” a different follower begged.

While it’s unclear whether this Michael/NCIS reunion could really happen, it’s not the only time he’s inferred his interest in returning to the show. Back in November 2023, he posted a selfie on X referring to DiNozzo’s rapport with his former colleague Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon, who also left the show, albeit in October 2021)making people think he’s been thinking about a grand return for a while.

“This guy woke me up this morning,” he wrote at the time. “Then I realized it was still a dream. He wouldn’t stop talking about Gibbs. And his shoulder holster. #ncis dream.”

Hear that, CBS? Looks like it’s time to make people’s dreams come true!
