Hollywood became the center of attention for Jayne Mansfield, a provocateur of her time, in the 1950s. Her three-year-old daughter Mariska Hargitay was also a passenger in the vehicle when she was killed in an automobile accident in 1967.
Mariska was fortunate to be able to survive. She is now well-known in the modern era for her acting career. She looks a lot like her mother!
Becoming a Hollywood superstar takes years and years of hard work for many actors and actresses. Even while success demands a great deal of sacrifice, effort, patience, and willpower, most well-known individuals would surely concur that it is ultimately rewarding.

Even yet, Jayne Mansfield became a superstar in less than a decade. She played several big-budget films in the 1950s and 60s, which made her a popular sex symbol.
Because of the roles she was offered, which included many that would be classified as “dumb blonde,” she was occasionally referred to as “the poor man’s Marilyn Monroe,” but she wasn’t like that at all.

Jayne Mansfield’s early years
Jayne Mansfield had a dazzling life filled with tragedy.
Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, on April 19, 1933, Vera Jayne Palmer was exposed to the more artistic side of life during her early years. Her father Herbert was a musician, so when she was little, he taught her how to sing and play the violin.
Still, tragedy claimed Jayne Mansfield when she was just three years old, her father dying from a heart attack when the family was traveling. After being abandoned with her infant, her mother Vera—a former teacher—had to return to her job to support her family.
“My life lost something,” she remarked. “The fondest recollections I have are from my early years. Every day I try to reminisce about the wonderful days spent with my father.
In 1939, Jayne’s mother married a second time, and the family moved to Dallas, Texas. Jayne Mansfield simultaneously hoped to become a Hollywood star. She went to all of Judy Garland’s film appearances and even dressed in costume as the renowned actress.
Relocating to Los Angeles
Although it proved to be a lot of fun in and of itself, her ultimate objective was still Hollywood. The family believed the time had come as success in Hollywood naturally required presence. Mansfield and her family relocated to Los Angeles in 1954.
Like any aspirant actor or actress, it is of course not easy to enter into the profession. When Jayne began her modeling career, her body soon became the center of her attention and a significant issue.
She had trouble getting employment because casting directors thought the future pinup icon’s voluptuous, gorgeous shape was simply too enticing for a commercial or advertisement. She was even removed off her very first print advertisement for General Electric at one point.

Jayne’s dream of appearing on screen was soon realized. She went to try out for Warner Brothers and Paramount, but neither company seemed interested in her.
However, Milton Lewis, the head of casting at Paramount, did something that would alter Jayne’s self-perception while she was reading.
Before moving to Hollywood, I attended three different institutions and two or three acting schools to get ready for my intended career as an actress. To audition, I performed a soliloquy for Joan of Arc for Milton Lewis, chief of casting at Paramount Studios. Furthermore, it appeared that he was disliking my “obvious talents.” This is what happened when he tightened my clothes and lightened my hair.
Marilyn Monroe was the largest and brightest celebrity in Hollywood at the time, and Jayne Mansfield wanted to compete with her. But her husband Paul had had enough, right about the time she was starting her Hollywood career. After the 1955 divorce, the daughter continued to live with Jayne in Los Angeles.
After landing a part in the low-budget film Female Jungle (1955), which provided her a lot of publicity, Jayne’s career finally took off. She had appeared on the cover of Playboy Magazine and been chosen “Playmate of the Month” in the same year.
“King-Size Marilyn Monroe”
She was expected to become the new Marilyn Monroe with her new look, the daring, pinup blonde bombshell, and in a way, she succeeded. Jayne even purchased a pink Cadillac to drive, proving that pink was her color.
She was swiftly signed by studios, who wanted to see more of her. Her popularity increased when Fox started to promote her as the “Marilyn Monroe King-Size.” She had transcended from being an actress to a 1950s sex icon by then.
“She suffered so many on-stage strap and zipper mishaps that nudity was, for her, a professional hazard,” one journalist went so far as to say.
After starring in Fox’s 1957 comedy blockbuster Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, Jayne attracted even more notice. She was awarded the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer—Female—in the same year. She co-starred with Kenneth More in the 1958 Western The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw the next year.
Jayne landed a number of other controversial parts for the time being, such as Too Hot to Handle (1960) and The Burglar (1957). She was, regrettably, called “The Poor Man’s Marilyn Monroe.”
Jayne Mansfield: Conflicts over censorship
Actor and bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay was Mansfield’s second spouse at the time of their marriage. At a press-packed ceremony in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, in 1958, they exchanged vows. Soon, the family was expanding. After the birth of their son Mickey Hargitay in 1959, they went on to have two more children. 1960 saw the birth of son Zoltan Hargitay, and 1964 saw the arrival of daughter Mariska Magdolna Hargitay.
After she starred in Too Hot to Handle, Jayne faced her first legal struggle over movie censorship. Her naked appearance in what was deemed to be a controversial attire at the time caused the film’s release date to be postponed.
A few years later, she engaged in another altercation over the same issue. The first American Hollywood movie star to go nude on screen was Mansfield, whose 1963 picture Promises! Promises! created a lot of attention. Because the sequence was deemed to be excessively graphic, it was censored and, in certain situations, outright prohibited worldwide.
Mansfield was a great Hollywood star by this point, and his image was seen as “owned by the public” at the time.
Work in Europe by Jayne Mansfield
She found it enjoyable and believed it was required.
In 1960, she remarked, “Actually, I feel that a star own it to her public, to bring the public into her life.”
It wouldn’t be fair to the fans, who feel as though they kind of own you, if you lived a completely private existence. However, my private life is always very private, and I say that with great care.
Just as quickly as Jayne became well-known, her career started to collapse. After being let go from 20th Century Fox in 1962, she went on to make appearances in a number of TV shows and game shows. Mansfield chose to venture outside of Hollywood in the 1960s, appearing in a number of British, Italian, and German motion pictures. She started doing nightclub appearances as well as touring the US and the UK.
Don Arden, the renowned music promoter and Sharon Osbourne’s father, organized a tour in 1967. She was giving a performance in the town of Batley one week.
Her Hollywood glitz undoubtedly had an effect on the attendees.
Neil Sean, an NBC News entertainment correspondent, remarked, “My dad said all these harridans would turn up at Batley with their rollers in and headscarves on.”
However, as the week wore on, they started to dress more and more opulently, showing up with lipstick and styled hair.
Death of Jayne Mansfield
By now, Hargitay had wed director Matt Cimber and Mansfield had filed for divorce. Anthony Cimber was their fifth child, and they got divorced in 1965.
The UK tour marked the end of Jayne Mansfield’s career. She was murdered in an automobile accident while traveling to New Orleans from a nightclub appearance in Mississippi when her car collided with a tractor trailer. Jayne was just 34 years old.
Mansfield, her driver, and her then-boyfriend Sam Brody were all instantly killed in the collision. She was interred in Pennsylvania’s Fairview Cemetery next to her father.
Three of her children were in the car, sound asleep in the backseat, but they were unharmed. Mariska Hargitay, the daughter, moved in with her father Mickey Hargitay when she was just three years old.
What then became of her? Mariska, of course, entered the performing profession after her mother. She certainly has her mother’s appearance!
She said to Redbook in 2009, “Losing my mother at such an early age is the scar of my soul.”
However, I believe that in the end, it helped shape who I am now. I am aware of life’s journey. To get here, I had to go through what I did.
Mariska chose to attend UCLA in California to study theater. She starred in her first movie, Ghoulies, in 1984. She performed in a number of TV shows during the 1980s in an effort to pursue a career in a larger venue. She didn’t alter her name or hair color, either, unlike her mother. People told her to adopt a different name, look, and even adopt her mother’s seductive persona. She once declined to appear in a nude scene for the 1986 film Jocks.
It hasn’t been easy to be the daughter of a Hollywood legend. And on occasion, Mariska has even felt burdened by it.
She said to Closer, “I used to hate constant references to my mom because I wanted to be known for myself.” “The scar on my soul is how young I lost my mother.”
Career of Mariska Hargitay
Mariska had been an actor for fifteen years before she landed her big break. In the 1999 season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on NBC, she portrayed Olivia Benson. In all, Mariska has made appearances in 481 episodes of the ongoing series.
Thanks to the successful primetime series, Mariska has established a fantastic career. It has also helped her win awards such as the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama and the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Nominations for eight additional prizes have also been made to her.
Like her mother, Mariska Hargitay is currently a well-known actress who is ruling the entertainment world. She looks absolutely like her mother, especially with that wonderful smile!
Mariska Hargitay’s household
Mariska has three children with actor and producer Peter Hermann, whom she married in 2004.
Marika’s mother died in a horrific automobile accident when she was very young, but being a mother herself has allowed her to feel a greater connection to the guardian she lost so young.
“My life is being a wife and mother, and that brings me the greatest happiness,” she remarked. “I have a newfound understanding of [my mother] that brings me comfort. I feel closer to her now that I recognize the love she possessed.
Mariska Hargitay and her mother Jayne Mansfield felt reunited when their stars were placed next to each other on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.
The outstanding performances of Jayne Mansfield will always be remembered.
