Robert De Niro, 80, shares emotional confession about 9-month-old daughter Gia
Hollywood actor Robert De Niro has shared a sweet confession showing his fatherly love for his youngest child, baby daughter Gia.
Nine month old Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro was born in April last year, with the couple announcing her arrival a month later. The 80-year-old actor has six other children as well as Mia.
The actor, who’s known for his roles in films like The Godfather Part II (1974) and Taxi Driver (1976), shares his youngest child with partner Tiffany Chen, 65. The couple, who are said to have met when he worked on the film The Intern in 2015, have been seen together with their infant and now Robert has opened up on his fatherly love for his youngest child.
Featuring on the cover of AARP The Magazine’s February/March 2024 issue, the actor revealed: “Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about just goes away when I look at her. It’s wondrous. When she gets older – who knows? But that very sweet way she has of looking at you, taking you in, thinking and watching and observing.”
Baby Gia’s arrival was not announced to the world when she was born. Her famous father revealed that he had welcomed a seventh child later on while promoting the comedy film About My Father (2023). In an interview with ET Canada, when asked about his six children, the two-time Oscar winner corrected the interviewer and said, “Seven, actually.” He then added: “I just had a baby,” he shared, though he didn’t provide any further details at the time about his new little one. He currently shares two children – Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46 – with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, and two children – Elliot, 25, and Helen, 11 – with ex-wife, Grace Hightower.
The newborn’s name and a photo were later shared on CBS Mornings by host Gayle King, 68. She told viewers that she had spoken to Robert prior to the episode and said that the couple was “over the moon” about Gia’s arrival. She told her audience: “[Gia] weighed eight pounds and six ounces when she was born on April 6. Robert De Niro and his partner Tiffany Chen are over the moon about this little girl. Now, this is the thing, Robert De Niro has six and now seven children. The oldest is in their fifties he now has this little baby.”
Tiffany appeared as a guest on the show herself last year, where she discussed her pregnancy with Gia and a health issue she experienced post-partum. She also spoke to host Gayle about her relationship with Robert in the interview. At one point, the martial arts instructor was asked to share the “best thing” about her partner. Tiffany responded to the question by telling Gayle: “How much he loves his family.” She added: “That might make me a little teary-eyed.”
