Sean Murray of NCIS worked with Gibbs actor Mark Harmon a decade before they crossed paths on NCIS.
Sean Murray, an NCIS star, met his “mentor” Mark Harmon when he was a youngster, and he had no idea how close they would grow later in life.
Agent Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) remained in the CBS police procedural for nearly two decades, working with a generally ever-changing crew, with the exception of his right-hand man, Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray).
They had been investigating cr1mes together since the series one premiere Yankee White in 2003, until Gibbs left at the end of season 19.
However, their relationship predates NCIS shooting, with actor Sean Murray beginning as a young actor, having appeared in Hocus Pocus and This Boy’s Life.
In 1993, the 46-year-old landed a role as Zane Hart in the television series Harts of the West, in which a Chicago family begins a new life on a rundown ranch in Nevada.
Harmon appeared in the episode The Right Stuff as a rodeo clown alongside series regular Murray.
The Timothy McGee star opened up on the Let’s Dive In podcast about his first experience working with his NCIS colleague.
It was very interesting to come full circle with Harmon there, and he left an imprint on me, he said.
He made an impression on me when he came on and had a role in Harts of the West, a show I performed when I was 15 years old; we did one season of it.
He made a big effect on me; I had a couple scenes with him and we chatted a lot about crafts and everything.
So, after all these years, being able to work with him again is fantastic.
He’s been kind of a mentor to me, whether he realizes it or not.
Harmon may no longer be in the original drama, but Gibbs’ contributions to the NCIS universe will continue.
CBS has announced that NCIS: Origins is in the works, which would recount the story of Gibbs before he joined NCIS.
Harmon will not star in the prequel, but he will serve as a narrator and executive producer for the next drama.
There has been no announcement yet on who will play the young Gibbs.
