AMAL CLOONEY FACES CRUEL CRITICISM: LABELED ‘UGLY’ AND TARGETED FOR HER LEGS
Despite some negative comments from fans, George Clooney is still really in awe of his wife, Amal Clooney. She’s a magical and amazing woman who caught his attention and made him go from being a bachelor to a married man.
George, who is a famous actor and filmmaker, has been in many TV shows and movies. You might remember him as a handyman in the old TV show The Facts of Life. More recently, he was in the TV show ER and starred in movies like O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Ocean’s Eleven, and Ticket to Paradise. In 2022, he spoke to Entertainment Tonight, saying that everything about his wife is like magic. He thinks everyone has noticed how incredible she is when they see and hear her, and he believes there’s nothing bad about her.
In 2013, George Clooney met Amal Alamuddin, an amazing Lebanese-British human rights lawyer. Meeting her was like getting the biggest role of his life – being her life partner.
Just six months after their first date, George proposed to Amal in 2014. He shared that he dropped the proposal on her, and she was so surprised and kept saying, ‘Oh, my God’ and ‘Wow!’ They sat there, and George jokingly mentioned that he was on his knee for about 28 minutes and needed an answer before he threw a hip out!
They got married in September 2014 at a fancy place called Aman Canal Grande hotel in Venice, Italy. Many famous people were there, like Bono, Matt Damon, and Bill Murray. It was a star-studded celebration of their love.
When Amal Clooney started dating George Clooney, she got a lot of attention, and not all of it was nice. People on the internet, who can be mean, criticized her looks and body.
Amal is a 45-year-old lawyer known worldwide for her work. She’s represented famous people like Julian Assange and the former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko. In 2019, she even worked for the United Nations.
But instead of talking about her achievements, some people on social media focus on her appearance. They call her names like “ugly” and a “gawky gargoyle.” One person on Twitter even said she looks like an “ugly man” when George Clooney could have picked anyone.
In 2015, ELLE Magazine shared an article about how stunning Amal is. But, again, some readers didn’t have nice things to say. They commented on her being too thin and having “shapeless sticks” for legs. It’s not fair, but Amal faces this kind of criticism online.
Meanwhile, some people defended Amal, saying, “Amal Clooney is a smart and accomplished lawyer! Who cares about what she wears!”
But there was a time when a big news outlet completely ignored Amal’s achievements. In 2015, the Associated Press got in trouble for calling Amal, who was representing a journalist, just an “actor’s wife.”
The original tweet said, “Amal Clooney, actor’s wife, representing Al-Jazeera journalist accused in Egypt of ties to extremists.” People got upset, and AP had to change it to, “Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney criticizes prison terms handed down to three Al-Jazeera English journalists.”
Amal responded to this on BBC through Entertainment Tonight, saying, “There’s not much I can do to control it except keep going. When people criticize journalism that focuses on the wrong issues, that’s heartening and that shows that people expect more from their press.” She handled it gracefully.
In March 2022, Time magazine recognized Amal in a special feature called “Women of the Year, 12 Leaders Working Toward a More Equal World.” Her story was written by Maria Ressa, a journalist and Nobel Peace laureate. In the article called “Amal Clooney Won’t Back Down,” Amal talked about dealing with her fame and criticism:
“When more people know about me, I try to focus on what really matters. It can help some of my clients. If the news talks about things that don’t matter during my work events, I can’t do much about it. Since I can’t control it, I just don’t worry about it. I focus on my work and life, hoping that people’s attitudes will catch up.”
Even with all the attention and criticism, Amal’s husband, George, always praises her. He says, “She’s stunning and has a great sense of style — she doesn’t use a stylist or anything, she just looks amazing. And she does it while handling 11 cases at once. She’s an incredible woman.” His love and admiration for her are really heartwarming.
The cute couple spends a lot of time at their beautiful Villa Oleandra by the lake in Lake Como, where they first met in 2013. They share their home with their twins, Alexander and Ella, born in 2017.
George Clooney said in an interview, “Every single day of my life, I just feel lucky. Lucky in my career. Lucky enough to have found the perfect partner. Sometimes in life, things don’t happen when you expect them, but you end up with the person you were always supposed to be with. That’s how I feel, and I know that’s how Amal feels.”
