Just this weekend, Goldie and Kurt celebrated 40 years together. They’ve been big stars in movies, but at the same time, they’ve had a loving relationship and been really devoted to their family.

Goldie and Kurt first met while working on The Only and Only, Genuine Original Family Band in 1966. Goldie talked about it in an interview with BBC Radio 4.

“I was 21, and he was 16,” Goldie said. “I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young. Then, years later, we met again, and I remembered that I liked him a lot when I first met him. We both said we would never go out with another actor, so it just goes to show you never can tell.”

 

 

Even though they didn’t start dating right away, things weren’t perfect for Goldie Hawn. Despite seeming really happy, she was actually going through a tough time.

According to reports, she was dealing with depression, but she kept it private and didn’t talk about it with the public.

On the talk show Good Morning Britain, Hawn shared that her struggles with mental health began when she was in her early 20s.

“When I was young, I became depressed. I was 21 and I was rising to success,” she said. “I know it sounds terrible, but it’s a very, very difficult thing, I didn’t necessarily want that.”

Goldie Hawn got married to actor Gus Trikonis in 1969, but they separated after four years. She got divorced in June 1976 and then married Bill Hudson a few weeks later. That marriage lasted six years.

In 1983, Russell and Hawn met again while filming Swing Shift. This time, Kurt Russell tried to impress Goldie with the pickup line: “Man, you’ve got a great figure.”

 

 

“I was really hungover, and I didn’t really know Goldie except for working with her many years before,” Russell shared in a 2017 interview with Conan O’Brien.

“I didn’t have in my mind what I was going to see, and she had a great body. So the first thing that came out was, ‘Man, you’ve got a great figure.’ It came out quickly, and it could’ve gone wrong, but she said, ‘Why thank you.’”

Back then, Goldie had two kids from her marriage with Bill Hudson. Her son Oliver was born on Sep 7, 1976, and daughter Kate was born on Apr 19, 1979.

Today, Kurt and Goldie have been a couple for 40 years, and they’re still deeply in love.

And you know what’s interesting? They’ve never felt the need for a marriage certificate to make their relationship more solid.

 

 

“For us, getting a marriage certificate wouldn’t have changed anything that we didn’t already have,” Russell explained to People.

“I mean, 40 years isn’t enough to finally say, ‘Well, I guess…’” he added.

Hawn chimed in, saying, “Our children got married. Oliver and Wyatt are happily married. Katie got married once, and that didn’t work out, but now she’s with this amazing person. I don’t know if she’ll marry again. The point is, we all tried marriage, and sometimes it doesn’t work. It’s not about the marriage; it’s about the people and the relationship and the will to stay together. That’s a big one because if you want it, you can have it. You’ve got to give things up, but the joy and the excitement of being together and touching the toes of somebody at night is really a nice feeling.”

No matter what anyone says, Kurt and Goldie are a couple worth looking up to.
