As the years go on, some celebrity families keep growing!
These blended bunches and tight-knit homes have a lot to learn from their highly experienced dads. Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood and Alec Baldwin are just a few A-list actors who have become dads by welcoming children later in life: read on to meet more members of Hollywood’s older dads club.
Gordon Ramsay
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay said he felt “really extraordinary, just blessed,” to welcome his sixth child with Tana, his wife of 27 years, at age 57. “I’m also sure I’ll be the oldest dad at the drop-off at school, so I’ll keep my cap and glasses on.” Baby Jesse James joined his two big brothers and three older sisters in Nov. 2023; in Tana’s post about his birth, she wrote, “Ramsay family definitely complete.”
Anthony Michael Hall
Actor Anthony Michael Hall was 55 when he and his wife Lucia welcomed baby Michael Anthony Hall II in June 2023.
“I couldn’t be happier because I always knew, even when I was a young man, that I wanted to get started later.” he told PEOPLE when he announced the happy news. “Here I am at 55, and I’m fully committed. I’m excited. My wife and I are really into parenting and diving in.”
Al Pacino
Just like his Oscar for Best Actor (he won in 1992 for Scent of a Woman), fatherhood came later in life for the actor. He welcomed his first child, daughter Julie, in 1989; in 2001, when he was 61, he and then-girlfriend Beverly D’Angelo welcomed twins Anton and Olivia.
And in 2023, at age 82, Pacino is a dad again!The Godfather star welcomed a fourth child with his girlfriend, Noor Alfallah, a boy named Roman.
Robert De Niro
His role as protective papa in Meet the Parents was certainly no stretch: The Academy Award winner recently welcomed his seventh child at age 79.
De Niro and his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, welcomed their first child, Drena, in 1976, and had son Raphael together a few years later before splitting. He also has twin sons, Julian and Aaron, with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, and with ex-wife Grace Hightower, is a parent to son Elliot and daughter Helen Grace.
Bernie Ecclestone
At age 89, Ecclestone became a father of four.
The former Formula 1 chief welcomed a son named Ace with his wife Fabiana Flosi, then 44, on July 1, 2020, a spokesperson for Ecclestone confirmed to CNN.
Ace is Ecclestone’s first son, and first child with Flosi. He is also dad to daughters Petra, Tamara, and Deborah (his eldest, born in 1955) from previous marriages.
Richard Gere
Richard Gere’s wife Alejandra Silva shared a rare glimpse into their family life when she posted a photo on Mother’s Day 2023 with their children — a 2½-year-old, whose name has not been shared publicly, 4-year-old son Alexander, and Albert, 9, Silva’s son from a previous relationship.
Gere, 73, is also dad to son Homer, born in 2000 when Gere was married to second wife Carey Lowell.
Clint Eastwood
Dad to seven children at the age of 63 (the eldest of which was born in 1954), Eastwood didn’t envision more kids in his future — until he married Dina. A few weeks following their Hawaiian wedding, the couple (who are now divorced) discovered they were expecting their first child together. Eastwood’s youngest child, daughter Morgan was born in 1996, when the actor-director was 65.
Nikki Sixx
The Mötley Crüe bassist was 61 when he and his wife Courtneywelcomed their first child together, daughter Ruby, in 2019.
“What a great way to start off 2019 for Courtney and me,” Nikki told PEOPLE.
Ruby is the first for Courtney, while Sixx – whose given name is Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna, Jr. – is also dad to adult children Frankie-Jean Mary, Decker Nilsson, Storm Brieann and Gunner Nicholas.
Ruby was conceived despite the bassist having previously had a vasectomy.
Eddie Murphy
Murphy was 59 when he and his girlfriend, Australian model Paige Butcher, welcomed their second child (and his 10th), but they didn’t have to worry about a shortage of half-siblings to pitch in with babysitting.
The actor is dad to nine other children with five women, including five kids with his ex-wife Nicole Murphy.
Jeff Goldblum
The star was in his early 60s when he welcomed his kids, River Joe and Charlie Ocean, with wife Emilie Livingston, a Canadian dancer and gymnast — and though he’s having “such fun” as a dad, he has also said he does have awareness of his age when parenting them.
“I keep doing the math, and keep extrapolating where they’re going to be, and where I’m going to be,” Goldblum told British outlet iNews of his kids. “And when I buy a watch, I wonder who’s going to get it.”
Billy Joel
Though already dad to adult daughter Alexa Ray with ex Christie Brinkley, Joel was ready for round two when he and wife Alexis welcomed daughter Della Rose in 2015. Life got even sweeter in October 2017, when daughter Remy Anne was born to the then-71-year-old musician and his wife.
Elton John
“[Having children] makes all the difference because it’s about them, not you,” said the musician of life with Zachary and Elijah — both welcomed in the star’s mid-60s. “And it’s the greatest thing you’ll ever know.”
He continued, “People say, ‘Well, I disagree, I don’t want children’ and that’s fine – I would have said the same thing, until I had them. Then it was like, ‘Wow this is it? Are you kidding me?’ If I was 15 years younger, I’d have two or three more. Without question.”
Mick Jagger
Lucky No. 8! The Rolling Stones frontman became a dad once more when he and ballerina-girlfriend Melanie Hamrick welcomed son Devereaux in December 2016, when he was 73; his eldest, Karis, was born in 1970.
Rod Stewart
Not long after becoming a new grandpa, the rocker and wife Penny Lancaster expanded their brood, welcoming their first son, Alastair, in 2005, when Stewart was 60. The two wed in 2007 and got double the blessing when son Aiden was born in 2011.
Ronnie Wood
Jagger’s fellow Rolling Stone was 68 and a grandfather of 10 when he and his wife and wife Sally welcomed twin girls in May 2016 – her first child, and his fifth.
Josh Brolin
At age 52, Josh Brolin became a dad of four, with wife Kathryn spilling her pregnancy news on Instagram on July 7, 2020 via a photo of herself posing with their young daughter Westlyn Reign.
“The Brolin’s are a growin’ !!” the entrepreneur captioned her post. “Our little December babe is on the way …🌱”
Josh left a cheeky comment on the post, writing, “Wow. That’s amazing! Congratula … wait … WHAT?!?!”
Aside from Westlyn, Josh has two adult children — daughter Eden and son Trevor — from his first marriage to actress Alice Adair. Josh and Kathryn tied the knot in September 2016.
Alec Baldwin
Already dad to daughter Ireland from his first marriage to Kim Basinger, the 30 Rock star was 62 when he and wife Hilaria announced they were expecting a baby. Daughter Carmen arrived in 2013, and the couple has had six more together since.
Ireland now has a daughter of her own, Holland, who was born in May 2023, making Alec a grandfather.
Steve Martin
After spending years perfecting the role of doting dad on the big screen (Cheaper by the Dozen or Father of the Bride, anyone?), life finally imitated art for the actor-author. He and his wife Anne Stringfield quietly welcomed a daughter in 2012, when he was 67.
“I have a family life that’s really fun,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “To film a movie now, to go someplace else to live, I’m not willing to do that anymore. I can’t disappear for three months.”
Bryan Adams
The rocker received an early Valentine’s Day present when daughter Lula Rosylea arrived in February 2013, when he was 54. But this wasn’t Adams’ first time changing diapers: he and girlfriend Alicia Grimaldi are also parents to daughter Mirabella Bunny.
Bruce Willis
The Die Hard star was 57 when he and wife Emma Heming welcomed daughter Mabel in 2012; two years later, they had daughter Evelyn in 2014.
Willis was already a dad to three adult daughters, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah, through his decade-long marriage to Demi Moore.
Mel Gibson
After almost 30 years of marriage and seven children together, the actor and wife Robyn called it quits in 2009.
Months later, the star announced that he and model girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva were expecting a baby together. Daughter Lucia was born in October 2009, only five months before the couple’s relationship took a tumultuous turn and ended.
In 2015, he moved on with equestrian and screenwriter Rosalind Ross; in January 2017 they welcomed Gibson’s ninth child, son Lars, when Gibson was 61.
Gary Busey
The actor first dived into daddy duty when he and ex-wife Judy Helkenberg welcomed son William in 1971. He welcomed a daughter, Alectra, in 1995, and in 2010 when he was 65, welcomed son Luke with partner Steffanie Samson.
Kevin Costner
Kevin Costner is a dad to seven — four adult children (Anne, Lily, Joe and Liam from previous relationships) and Cayden, Hayesand Grace from his marriage to estranged wife Christine Baumgartner. He was 54 when his youngest was born.
Warren Beatty
It was a match made in Hollywood heaven when the legendarily eligible bachelor met Annette Bening, and the couple welcomed four children between 1992 and 2000 — the same year the actor celebrated his 63rd birthday. “He’s a fantastic dad. He’s just enthralled, very thoughtful, very communicative,” Bening has said.
Michael Douglas
Already a dad to Cameron when he married Catherine Zeta-Jones in 1998. The couple would go on to welcome son Dylan in 2000 and daughter Carys in 2003, when Douglas was 59, and he said he was grateful for the gift: “I never anticipated starting a family and the joy of raising kids at my age.”
Paul McCartney
Rock star Paul McCartney and his late wife Linda had four children starting in the 1960s. Decades later, he married mother Heather Mills, and in 2003, he became a dad for a fifth time at the age of 61, when their baby girl, Beatrice, was born. (He and Mills split not long after.)
McCartney shared a photo with his eight grandchildren on The Late Show in 2019 (pictured).
David Letterman
After almost 17 years of dating, the late-night host and his partner Regina took their relationship to a whole new level in 2003 with the birth of their first child, son Harry. The funny guy —who was 56 at the time —and his longtime love eventually tied the knot in 2009, with their then-5-year-old son at their side.
Jack Nicholson
The actor is father to six: He had daughter Jennifer in 1963; years later, he would welcome daughter Lorraine and son Raymond, who was born the same year his famous father turned 54; in 1994, a 57-year-old Nicholson would welcome daughter Tessa with Jennine Gourin. (Nicholson is also dad to Honey Hollman.)
Dennis Quaid
Quaid plunged back into parenthood in 2007 at age 53, welcoming twins Thomas and Grace in 2007 with now-ex-wife Kimberly Buffington. This was 15 years after the birth of son Jack, his only child with ex-wife Meg Ryan.
In June 2020, Quaid quietly wed Laura Savoie.
Larry King
Following a slew of relationships (which produced three children) the late late-night host tied the knot and settled down with his seventh wife Shawn. At the age of 65, he would return to double the diaper duty when the couple welcomed their first son Chance in 1999, followed only a year later by the birth of son Cannon.
John Travolta
John Travolta and his wife, the late Kelly Preston, welcomed son Jett in 1992 and daughter Ella Bleu in 2000, and were heartbroken when Jett died suddenly of a seizure at age 16.
Less than two years later, the couple surprised everyone with news that they were adding another baby to their brood. Just three months shy of his 57th birthday, Travolta and Preston welcomed son Benjamin in November 2010.
Hugh Grant
A little over one year after welcoming daughter Tabitha in 2011, the actor and then-girlfriend Tinglan Hong added another baby (a son!) to their brood. He and now-wife Anna Eberstein have three children of their own; he was 58 when the youngest was born.
